So long, 2021

2021 is about saying goodbye.

On the last day of 2021, I also say goodbye to #jewellery #rendering ... at least for now. Just lost count of how many brushes I had killed during that half year, but I did learn something in the process, and I now wondering more around the windows of jewellery shops, till the sales come out to greet me :)

So long, Fenwick Pier

We bid farewell to lots of things and people these days, with the Fenwick Pier among one of them. First started operation in 1953, the Fenwick Pier serves military sailors from around the world. Vessels used to dock at the Fenwick Pier, but with land reclamation works along the Wan Chai part of the Victoria Harbour, the marine function of the Pier had been closed since 2011, and it is no longer by the shore since then. Sailors now board in Kennedy Town with shuttle buses bringing them to the Fenwick Pier.

The Fleet Arcade at the Fenwick Pier opens to the local public as well. It is very close to our office that we used to have lunch there from time to time to enjoy some short leisure during a busy day.

With the land lease about to end at the end of the year, the Fenwick Pier will also be closed without any place for relocation. The existing site will be used for the relocation of the Kong Wan Fire Station, with the original site of the Kong Wan Fire Station being used for the extension of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Garden Estate

I lived in #PakLingLau of #KwunTong #GardenEstate on and off with my grandparents and my youngest aunts and uncle before primary school. We were among the first to move in (I of course wasn’t born back then), and I believe that must be a happy time when finally having a decent shelter with our own kitchen and bathroom.

The Garden Estate will be re-developed in a few years' time. People may say

the new could not come if the old is not gone. But with more and more disappearing, I could only feel more and more alienated.

Ap Lei Chau Waterfront

First time to the #ApLeiChau #waterfront this morning.

I was sketching the “trash boat” (#boat collecting garbage in water) but it sailed away before I even applied ink! So I turned around to catch something that would not be moving anywhere -- the platform for boarding #pontoon to #Aberdeen. Its “Lego” colour scheme made the seldom-use colours finally became handy.

Sau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter

This weekend is also busy but not so busy, and so I went a station away yesterday to sketch the Sau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter. Met some kids and some grannies. If I have to pick a not so happy thing yesterday afternoon, it would be a granny stood beside me for quite a while that I couldn’t sing aloud!

The Memorial Shrine

The City Hall Memorial Shrine was built in memory of the glorious dead in the war years between 1941 and 1945. Inside the 12-sided Shrine are placed a Roll of Honours and wreaths. On the wall were inscribed these words: “These had seen movement and heard music; known slumber and waking; loved; gone proudly friended”.
