Spanish Midday, Aranjuez

Lately I am exploring the world of John Singer Sargent by re-creating his watercolour works.

At first, I wanted to imitate his bold and confident brush strokes that I lack.  But then, I discover his use of colour is no accident -- the light tone is backed by the darker tone beside, the warm and the cold colours always go hand in hand, while the supplementary colours are, well, supplementing each other.  Every time I apply a patch of colour, I would say to myself, wow, that’s clever.
